Campbell Weir joined the 39th Bombardment Group in May 1944 at Salina, KS and was largely responsible for it's early trainng and moulding into a combat organization.

He Campbell Weir joined the 39th Bomb Group at Salina, KS upon his arrival in May 1944 he served as Temporiary Group Commander from 11 May to 10 June 1944 remained with the group as Group Executive Officer. largely responsible for it's early trainng and moulding into a combat organization.

According to the July 1, 1945 of "The Blockbuster" the group's newletter while at North Field Guam, Lt. Colonel departed for points stateside resigning his commission and seeking a taste of cililian life.
