Sgt Kenneth J. Setzer
Airplane Power Plant Mechanic

Born on Feb. 24, 1924, in McIlhaney, he was a son of the late William E. and Hattie J. Fish Setzer and lived in Monroe County for most of his life.

A 1942 graduate of Stroudsburg High School. On 3 March 1943, he entered the United States Army Air Corps; After training assigned as an airplane power plant mechanic on Crew 34's "City of Jackson". While in the service he received various medals including the Distinguished Unit Citation , the Asian-Pacific Theater Service Ribbon with two Bronze Service Stars, American Theatre Campaign Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.

He and his wife, Elizabeth married 24 August 1946 celebrating 59 yrs of marriage as of Aug 2005. They have a son James and a daughter Cheryl and one grandson, Charles.

Ken worked as a production control manager for Triumph Machinery Company in Hackettstown, N.J., until retiring in 1988 after 20 years of service.

He was a member of St. John's E.C. Church, Bartonsville; George N. Kemp Post 346 American Legion, East Stroudsburg; and West End Wings. He was also president of the Blue Ridge Pioneers RV club; volunteered with the American Red Cross; was an avid model airplane enthusiast and was active in community affairs.


Kenneth J. Setzer passed away quietly 3 May 2006, with his wife, Betty and his son, James and daughter, Cheryl at his side. He was buried in Custard's Cemetery, Bartonsville, PA.
